What this site knows about you

Short version: as little as possible, and nothing you did not hand over.

Who is responsible. Paul L. G. Harris, UK, is the person who decides what is done with the information below. You can reach him through the contact form.

What is stored, and why

Nothing by default. This site sets no cookies and uses no advertising or cross-site tracking.

Page counts. To learn which pages people read, the site counts visits by page, by day, by the website you came from (just the domain) and by country. No IP address, no identifier and no cookie is kept with these counts.

Your browser's own storage. Your progress on the trail and your posting key for the board are saved in your browser's local storage on your device, because you asked for those features. They are sent to this site only when you solve a gate, unseal a vault or post.

The Registry (email list). If you join, I store your email address, which book you said you were waiting for (if any), the date, and the wording you agreed to. Nothing else. It is used only to email you about new books and research. Every email will carry an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask me to delete you.

The board. If you post, I store what you write, the name you chose, the date, and a short code derived from your browser's posting key so the same person can be recognised without an account. It cannot be turned back into anything about you. Posts wait for a human to approve them. Anything you write that is approved is public.

The contact form. Your message and the email address you gave, so I can reply.

Spam protection. Forms use a bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile) and a rate limit. The rate limit uses a one-way hash of your network address mixed with a secret, kept for no more than an hour.

Who else touches it

The site runs on Cloudflare, which delivers pages and stores the databases. Cloudflare processes network data to do this under its own privacy terms. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google. The only outside request the pages make is the Turnstile bot check on forms.

How long

Board posts and messages are kept until I delete them. Registry emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. Page counts are kept as totals.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete what I hold about you, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you are unhappy. Use the contact form and say what you want removed. If you posted on the board, include the title of the thread.
